Timeless Wisdom from The NeverEnding Story

Today, we decided it was time to introduce the girls to “The NeverEnding Story”. I had not seen the movie since I was a kid. Like so many things from the 1980s, it aged incredibly well. Here are a few gems:

Visceral Truths…

1. “When it comes to controlling human beings, there is no better instrument than lies. Because, you see, humans live by beliefs. And beliefs can be manipulated. The power to manipulate beliefs is the only thing that counts.”

2. “The Nothing is spreading. It’s growing and growing, there’s more of it every day, if it’s possible to speak of more nothing.” “Is it very painful?” “No. You don’t feel a thing. There’s just something missing. And once it gets hold of you, something more is missing every day. Soon there won’t be anything left of us.”

3. “People have begun to lose their hopes and forget their dreams. So, the nothing grows stronger.”

As Well As Hope and Possibility…

4. “It has to hurt if it’s to heal.”

5. “Strange as it may seem, horror loses its power to frighten when repeated too often.”

6. “Nothing is lost… Everything is transformed.”

7. “You have to try. You have to care.”

Food for thought. I’ll be cogitating on these in the car this week.
